Vitamin B12

What is Adenosylcobalamin?

Adenosylcobalamin (also known as adenosylcobalamin B12, coenzyme B12, or cobamamide) is one of the two biologically active forms of vitamin B12, alongside methylcobalamin. Vitamin B12 occurs naturally in animal products such as meat, fish, eggs, and dairy, and is essential for, among other things, energy production and the nervous system.

Adenosylcobalamin works directly in the mitochondria, the energy powerhouses of our cells, where it supports energy metabolism. Thanks to this direct action, it is well-absorbed and effective in reducing fatigue and promoting vitality.

Applications in the food industry

Protein and fiber enrichment of products

Sunflower seed flour is rich in protein and fiber. This contributes to a higher feeling of satiety and improved texture in food products. It is an ideal ingredient to use as a protein enhancer in low-carb bread mixes or high-fiber snacks.

Replacement for wheat flour

As a gluten-free option, sunflower seed flour can completely replace wheat flour. This results in products suitable for consumers with gluten intolerance or celiac disease.

Clean label and emulsifying action

Sunflower seed flour naturally contains a small amount of lecithin, which can contribute to a slight emulsifying effect. Although it is not a full-fledged substitute for sunflower lecithin, it can be used in some applications as a clean label alternative to synthetic emulsifiers such as E471.

Low glycemic index

Sunflower seed flour has a low glycemic impact, making it suitable for products aimed at blood sugar regulation and low-carb diets. This also makes it interesting for formulations focused on diabetes-friendly nutrition.

Animal feed industry

Sunflower seed flour is also a valuable ingredient in the animal feed sector. The protein-rich raw material remaining after pressing oil from sunflower seeds is widely used in feeds for ruminants.

Technical advantages for formulation

  • Directly bioactive: No conversion needed by the body
  • Functionally targeted: Specifically active in energy metabolism
  • Compatible with other B12 forms: For broad-spectrum formulas
  • Stable raw material: Suitable for dry and liquid applications
  • Non-GMO & vegan compatible: Suitable for modern label claims

Applications in supplements and functional foods

Adenosylcobalamin is widely applicable in energy and vitality supplements. Due to its role in cellular energy production, it is particularly suitable for formulas aimed at physical performance, recovery, or fatigue reduction. It is often incorporated into multivitamins with active B12 forms and is also well-suited for oral liquid products such as shots, functional beverages, or ampoules, provided it is correctly stabilized.

Frequently asked questions

Thanks to our extensive stock, adenosylcobalamin is generally available directly from stock. Worldwide just-in-time delivery is possible with us, depending on volume and location.

Certainly, a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) is provided for each batch, stating the measured values of that specific batch. This CoA demonstrates that the product meets the established product specifications. Stability data, such as shelf life and storage conditions, can be shared additionally if desired.

Adenosylcobalamin is generally considered a relatively stable form of vitamin B12 in supplements. Although it is less susceptible to degradation than some other B12 forms, it remains important to protect the ingredient during processing from extreme conditions such as excessive heat, moisture, and prolonged exposure to light and oxygen. For optimal stability, controlled conditions (dry, cool, light-protected) are therefore recommended. This ensures that the quality and efficacy of adenosylcobalamin in the final product are maintained.
