Why would we?
The history of animal-based nutrition began with the nomadic lifestyle of human beings, followed by the domestication of livestock and the dawn of agriculture. However, with the growing demand for animal-derived resources, we are now experiencing health problems, climate crises and the large-scale suffering of animals raised on factory farms.
For decades especially with raising health concerns, several public health campaigns and millions of research have been issued to increase the awareness of this alert. And finally, we are reaping the harvest! Some valuable attempts in the plant-based market are changing the situation. Many restaurants nowadays are integrating meat alternatives into their option by marketing dedicated plant-based menus, or in grocery stores, plant-based alternatives have started driving sales. And with this 45% growth in retail sales of meat alternatives in 2020, the global market price is expected to value $7,106.7 million by 2025.
Does that mean we should lay back and relieve? It is, indeed, a virtue to ease health concerns, reduce environmental footprint, and increase living conditions by lowering the cost of living. However, shifting toward plant-based is a long journey, and we should still need to decrease Green House Gas emissions by 95% in 2050 while taking care of our health and animal welfare. We are just opening a new chapter in the book! Numbers are increasing, the market is skyrocketing with plant-based meat substitutes. Do we know how we should consume these products and fulfil our nutritional requirements? Every nutrient is available in a plant-based form. Some contain more nutrients than animal sources, while some are not truly supporting our nourishments.
